Why would someone want to own charging stations now?

Starting in 2010 ten major automobile manufacturers released electric vehicles across the United States. Electric vehicles provide us with a cleaner environment, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and allow us to operate vehicles at a lower cost than current gas-powered vehicles. While many people purchasing an electric vehicle will have a charging station installed at their home they will also need to access public charging stations while out on the road. Drivers will need charging stations in public garages, workplaces, sports venues, hospital parking lots, retail stores, restaurants, cultural recreation centers, and any other location where they will park their cars for extended periods of time.

How do I know which charging station is right for my property?

There are several questions to ask when deciding which charging station would best suit the needs of your patrons. Commonly it depends on the amount of time a person will be parked at your property. Feel free to contact us directly and we would be happy to walk you through the decision making process.

How much space does a charging station require?

JuiceBar has many options of charging stations available, providing you with the most choice to fit the needs of your property. Our Gen 3 for example has the option of a wall mount for facilities where space may be limited. For a complete list of our products and their size, check out our spec sheets located on our product pages or contact our JuiceBar team for suggestions.

How long is the hose that comes off of the charging station?

The hose length differs depending on which charging station. Please visit the individual product page to see the spec sheets for each charging station.

Does the JuiceBar Double unit have a Level 1 Charger?

At your option!  If you wish we can provide both two SAE-J1772 EV Charge Couplers and one or more Level 1 connections such that your charger can charge up to 3 or 4 cars simultaneously.

What is the difference between Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 charging stations?

The level of charging refers to the voltage used by the charging station. Standard outlets in the United States are at 110 – 120 volts. Level 1 charging is done at this voltage. A majority of the electric vehicles released prior to 2010 utilize a Level 1 charging station. Level 1 charging can take as much as 8 – 16 hours to fully charge depending on the car and level of charge on the battery. Level 2 charging uses 208 – 240 volts and typically have a charge time of 4–6 hours to completely charge a vehicle. Level 3 charging uses 440 volts and are a great fit for highway charging, or anywhere a quick charge is needed. The Level 3 charging stations that are currently available can provide 80% of a full charge in fewer than 30 minutes.

How much range does an electric vehicle get per hour of charge?

The rate of charge depends on the amperage of the JuiceBar.  A 32 amp charging on a 208 voltage circuit will produce 6.66 kilowatts per hour or enough charge for about 26 miles of range for the average driver.  By contrast, JuiceBar’s 80 amp charger will produce 16.64 kilowatts per hour, enough battery power for 66.6 miles of range for the average driver.

How long does it take to completely charge an electric vehicle?

It depends on the amperage of the JuiceBar and the capacity of the battery size of the vehicle.  An 80 amp charger will produce about 66.5 miles of range per hour, filling a 200 mile range battery in 3 hours.  Most Electric Vehicle users utilizing chargers in public parking garages will only need to “top off” which would mean they only need to use the JuiceBar for 1 – 2 hours.

Current production JuiceBar Gen 3 chargers require one dedicated circuit (breaker) per charging connector, with a minimum 20% headspace, or in accordance with local electrical guidelines.

This allows the charging circuit to resume charging once the fault condition has been cleared.

The CCID20 is an improvement over GFCI which normally requires a manual reset of the GFCI to restore function.

No, the circuit feeding the JuiceBar Gen 3 charger requires a minimum 20% head spacing for safety.

Which cellular providers are ending 3G service?

All major cellular services are shutting down their 3G networks in 2022. AT&T will end 3G service in February, T-Mobile will end all 3G service by July and Verizon will shut down 3G service by December.

Why are some EV chargers having issues with the end of 3G?

Many competitor companies have proprietary hardware that is compliant with the 3G network. These chargers depend on 3G connectivity to provide owners and customers services like management, monitoring and charger payment.

How will I know if my charger is affected by this 3G interruption?

Many popular chargers are all tied into the 3G network, but many other chargers may be affected by this change. Without replacement or upgrades, your EV charger will not function. Make sure to check with your EV charger provider to see if your unit will be affected.

What are my options if I have a 3G EV charger?

If your current EV charger is dependent on a 3G network, you have two options: upgrade your obsolete charger or replace your charger with a new unit.

If my charger company will upgrade the unit, why replace my device?

Upgrading your charger’s hardware will cost you thousands of dollars, and the result is a unit that is still outdated and needs further hardware upgrades in a few years. A better option than enduring the high cost of updating obsolete EV chargers is replacing them with superior JuiceBar chargers.

Is it cheaper to upgrade rather than buy a new charger?

Not necessarily. Depending on which company provides your charger, you could be billed thousands of dollars for an upgrade. JuiceBar provides a Trade Up program that offers $1,000 towards replacing existing functioning or non-functioning EV chargers from any other brand.

How do I know JuiceBar chargers will work when networks eventually update to 5G?

JuiceBar chargers use an open protocol system, allowing you to choose your own network. If you decide to switch networks, JuiceBar chargers will enable you to retain existing hardware. JuiceBar is so confident with their chargers they offer a 10-year guarantee.

What are the benefits of purchasing a new JuiceBar charger?

  • New JuiceBar chargers provide a much faster charge than outdated models from other companies. Newer EVs can charge at 48amps, whereas your current models are 30- or 32-amps. This updated speed means multiple users can use one charger, doubling your charger capability.

  • New JuiceBar chargers incorporate upcoming software updates that make the chargers’ demand response more efficient and allow JuiceBar to incorporate V2G/V2B when available.

  • JuiceBar’s open protocol system makes incorporating the charger into a building, energy or parking management system far simpler.

  • JuiceBar builds its standard application programming interface (API) for all commonly used systems. This API is critical when implementing a power management application.

  • JuiceBar’s standard network system is half the cost of competitor systems.

While JuiceBar Gen 3 chargers are OCPP compliant, each network must go through a validation process before it can be used with the JuiceBar Gen 3 charger to ensure compatibility. Each validation is unique, and timeline and cost can vary based on the network’s readiness and compatibility.

If you have a network, you would like supported by our chargers, please reach out to your JuiceBar sales representative to discuss validation opportunities.
