Background:
The Water Street Garage is a municipal parking garage in the middle of a transportation hub that includes a train station and ferry. It is close to shopping, restaurants, and historic & cultural attractions. Having undergone an extensive renovation including green infrastructure improvements this facility wanted to add the additional amenity of electric vehicle charging stations to compliment their green efforts.
Goal:
The New London Parking Commission management wanted to add charging equipment that would be able to charge several vehicles at the same time. The vehicle charging would be free the first 3 years, and then the facility wanted the option to have the ability to charge by credit card in the future.
Solution:
JuiceBar’s recommendation was to install 2 of our JuiceBar Quad charging stations with a point of sale system. These 2 stations would provide them with charging for up to 8 cars. The point of sale system would allow them the future option to charge by credit card. To help fund the project we assisted them in obtaining the CT DEEP funding that was available for new installations.
Result:
The CT DEEP funding application was submitted & approved. The JuiceBar staff did an on-site survey; the units arrived and were installed within the funding deadline. The Water Street Garage, an environmentally responsible facility, added the JuiceBar charging stations as a means to support local commuters that drive electric vehicles and to draw other EV drivers, tourists and business people, to the New London Area and Water Street Garage. They will have the option to turn on the Point of Sale system in the future and thereby covering costs of the charging stations.
