activateEV for Site Hosts FAQs

Charging FAQs

How long will it take for a driver to charge their car?

The time to charge an electric vehicle will vary depending on many different factors. JuiceBar EV charging stations are Level 2 stations and can be found in 32, 40, 48 and 80 amps. The size of the amperage will affect the speed of charge, but an average rate of charge is 15-25 miles of range per hour with higher amperages delivering up to 60 miles of range per hour.

How can I charge drivers to use my stations?

The activateEV platform allows you to customize your charging program to fit your needs. Site Hosts can charge drivers in a number of ways, including flat rates, per kWh*, for time spent plugged in (duration-based charging), different prices for different times of the day (Time of Use charging), or any combination of the above. An activateEV customer specialist will be happy to help you determine the right type of fees to associate with your charging program.

*Please note that charging per kWh is not legal in all states. Please visit the Alternative Fuels Data Center at afdc.gov to determine the pricing laws in your locale.

What states allow kWh pricing?

As of April, 2022, 30 US states allow site hosts to charge by the kWh. Those states are: AZ, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, ID, IA, IL, IN, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, NV, NJ, NM, NY, NC, OH, OK, OR, RI, SC, UT, VT, VA, WA, plus DC

How can drivers find my charging stations?

Drivers with the activateEV app downloaded on their phone will be able to see all activateEV charging stations within their area in the map view, or they can search for an area where they will be visiting. You can also add your stations to national charging map websites, such as PlugShare.com, as well as Google and Apple maps. Please contact an activateEV charging expert if you need any assistance with this process.

Can my drivers use their own RFID cards to start a charging session?

JuiceBar stations powered by the activateEV network can read ID cards with a radio frequency of 13.56 mhz. As long as your driver’s RFID card is 13.56 mhz, your drivers can associate that card with their activateEV account and use it to start their charging stations. For example, if your residents use one RFID card to access the gym, the pool, the business center, or other amenities on your property, they can also program the card to start the charging stations as well.
